For Episode 17 of the Sin Bin Show hockey podcast we started things with an international edge. In our first story Peter Forsberg finally gave the NHL an answer as to whether he would be returning. Moving along we looked at the huge contract extension that New York Rangers gave to their main man between the pipes, Henrik Lundqvist. Philadelphia made a return to the Team of the Week. This time it was a more negative appearance as we struggled to look for the good things going on for this team right now. As always we wrapped the show up with the Three Stars of the Week.

This man was the best player in the NHL, is one of three members of the double Triple Gold Club, and recently turned down numerous NHL contracts that would have enhanced his wealth and protected his family (financially) for decades just to protect his integrity. Men who care this passionately about their reputation and legacy are few and far between in North America, so perhaps Peter Forsberg owes these qualities to his modest Swedish upbringing. In any case, todays news from his Nordic stomping ground will surprise you. Continue reading here…

Listen here to why neckguards and visors will never be mandatory, a detailed breakdown of who is getting traded and where, and why we need to embrace hockey and stop endlessly chirping the best indoor game in the world.
Enjoy the View from Cloud9. Cheers, Derek.

Unfortunately we had to start episode 16 of the Sin Bin hockey podcast by talking about the worst tragedy the NHL has seen in years. This of course was the skate that Richard Zednik took to the carotid artery. After that we moved on to less dreadful news, as we looked at the four player trade between the Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes. For the Team of the Week we looked at the Dallas Stars who are quietly making there way to the top of the NHL. As always we finished off the show with the Three Stars of the Week.

Talk about a polarizing subject in sports and fighting in hockey emerges like a sneaky right cross from George Parros. The volume of opinions on the matter diminish the vastness of the Milky Way while overemphasizing what amounts to a single snap, or pitch in football and baseball respectively. Does punching a man in the groin, or throwing at someones’ head not glaringly eclipse the inherent danger in a good on-ice tussle? Continue reading here.

Here is a link to the most recent auditory submission from Cloud9 Sports.
Check out how the Peter Forseberg sweepstakes changes the NHL landscape and the best piece I’ve done yet: Ray Emery is the TO of the NHL. (Note: initial portion deals with NBA, feel free to skip that for non-fans)

Had it not been for the inclusion of a third news story this week we could have called Episode 15 of the Sin Bin Show the episode about the bad boys of the NHL. We started the show off by talking about Antripov’s stick throwing incident, and then moved east across Ontario to look at Ray Emery’s bad behavior of late. Keeping the news north of the border was Steve Yzerman and his latest job announcement. The Team of the Week also has ties to Canada as it was the Montreal Canadians. As always we wrapped up the show with the Three Stars of the Week, including the infamous Sin Bin Player of the Week.

We have reached what is generally considered the half-way point of the NHL season. With that of course comes the All Star game. But before we jumped into our coverage of the event we had to discuss the return of Teemu Selanne to the Ducks. Our Team of the Week this episode was the Montreal Canadians. As usual we wrapped up the show with the Three Stars of the Week which was wrought with controversy!

NHL: To absolutely no ones surprise Teemu Selanne is back with the defending Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Following the path of former captain Scott Neidermayer whose return has marked a notable turn-around for the Ducks, Selanne brings his back-to-back 40+ goal, 90+ point campaigns into an already formidable offensive attack.
